Dubai records 99.5% drop in unresolved, disturbing crimes

  • Dubai News

Unresolved and disturbing crimes in Dubai dropped by 99.5 per cent in 2018, the Dubai Police have recorded.

House thefts declined by three per cent and theft of utilities by seven per cent last year. Incidents of arson have also come down by 22 per cent in Dubai, the records indicate.

Brigadier Jamal Al-Jallaf of Dubai Police said that the decline can be attributed to innovative techniques put into place for crime reduction, which have prevented illegal acts, and gone a long way in curtailing unsolved crimes.

He said that ‘Oyoon’ or ‘Eyes’ project and installation of surveillance cameras in the streets as well as shopping malls have yielded exceptional results.

Besides, the Dubai Police are also monitoring houses round-the-clock using ‘smart’ security apparatus, even when their owners go out of the country, by getting them linked to the well-equipped centralised command room. Brigadier Jamal Al-Jallaf said that there are 500 houses that have installed advance security system and availing of its benefits.

He pointed out ‘Faces’, a sophisticated system, has contributed to the arrest of 87 wanted people since its implementation last December, and helped monitor 507 suspects.

He added that the system will be linked to the database containing images of suspects wanted internationally and those prosecuted in terror cases.
