  • Events

It’s been a long week, but Thursday is finally here – and to celebrate, we’ve got a list that’s jam-packed with brilliant things to do today in Dubai.

There will be spectacular fireworks displays across the city tonight for Diwali, but we recommend heading to Global Village where it’s a full-on festival of celebration.

There’s also a fabulous new evening barbecue experience on JBR beach to try out, as well as the usual range of Dubai Fitness Challenge classes.

And if you love the ocean, then you’re in luck today – because it’s the Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show and Lobster Fest.

So all aboard. We’re sailing towards the weekend, full-speed ahead.

1. Celebrate Diwali at Global Village
Head to Global Village this Diwali for fireworks, workshops, a live concert and the UAE’s largest Rangoli Mandala. Bollywood singers Neha Kakkar and Ankit Tiwari will be performing live on the Main Stage at on Friday November 9 at 9pm and there will be Bollywood dance performances over the course of the week.

2. Get sizzling at JBR
Love barbecues? Live for the beach? Then you’re all set with tonight’s launch of a brand-new weekend beach barbecue deal taking place every weekend in Dubai’s JBR. From Thursday to Saturday every week, from 6pm until 9pm, Areia Beach Bar & Grill at DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai – Jumeirah Beach, feast your beady eyes, flared nostrils and rumbling bellies on a variety of barbecued meat and seafood, all on the fringes of JBR’s beach.

3. Get on board with the Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show
Maybe you actually want to buy a huge yacht, or maybe you just love staring slack-jawed and dreaming of which one you’d sail down the Cote d’Azur if you had a cool million dirhams to spare. Luckily, even if you’re not making a purchase there’s loads to do here, with a line-up of live entertainment and activities. You can also taste delicious lobster dishes if you need some more ocean inspiration.
Free entry. Thu Nov 8 2pm-9pm, Fri Nov 9 12pm-9pm, Sat Nov 10 12pm-8pm. Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club (04 295 6000).

4. See the horseracing at Meydan
Jockeys compete to take home prizes of up to Dhs1million as part of this year’s Meydan Racecourse meets. It’s all leading up to next year’s Dubai World Cup, which is a spectacular weekend event featuring not only incredible sport but also incredible outfits in the glamorous crowd. So why not head to Meydan Racecourse and catch some racing before then?
Free entry. Thursday November 8, 6.30pm. Meydan Racecourse (04 327 2110).

5. Relax with Hatha yoga at DMCC Park
Many yoga styles (bikram, ivengar, ashtanga) are derived from hatha. The focus is on breathing and alignment – so it’s a good way to get relaxed. You can try it out at this class tonight as part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge.
